Rotary makes high-quality health care available to vulnerable

mothers and children so they can live longer and grow stronger

We expand access to quality care,

so mothers and children everywhere can have the same opportunities

for a healthy future.

An estimated 5.9 million children under the age of five die each year

because of malnutrition, inadequate health care, and poor sanitation

— all of which can be prevented.

How Rotary makes help happen

Rotary provides education, immunizations, birth kits,
and mobile health clinics.
Women are taught how to prevent mother-to-infant HIV transmission,
how to breast-feed, and how to protect themselves
and their children from disease.
Our impact on the lives of mothers and children

The Rotary Foundation reaches mothers and children
in need by giving communities the help and training
they need to take control of their own maternal and infant health care.

Rotary makes amazing things happen, like:
Mobile prenatal clinics

Haiti has the highest maternal and infant mortality rate
of any country in the western hemisphere.
Rotary provided a fully equipped medical Jeep to volunteers
and midwives to reach mothers and children in remote areas.

Cancer screening

Rotarians provided a mobile cancer screening unit
and awareness trainings around Chennai, India,
where there is a high mortality rate of women with
breast and cervical cancer due to late diagnosis.

Preventing injuries and deaths

Rotary members launched a $3 million, five-year pilot
to save lives of mothers and children during home deliveries in Nigeria.
Since 2005, they’ve also repaired 1,500 obstetric fistulas
— 500 more than their initial goal —
restoring dignity and hope to vulnerable mothers.

The highlight of conference weekend has to be our club being awarded

the Best Attendance at the conference,

with the highest percentage of club members attending.

With 8 of our 11 members attending, it was close,

but we managed to take home the trophy!

The trophy isn’t just a chance to brag about what a great club we are,

though that is true, but a testament to our members’

dedication and commitment to the Rotary message.

Even our District Governor Lindsay Dry commented

on what an inspiration our club is to Rotary clubs

in the district, changing from a club on the brink

to a club going from strength to strength

held at the Claremont Showgrounds.

We were invited by our local member of parliament and fellow Rotarian

Don Punch MLA to hold our lunchtime meeting at Parliament House in West Perth

We were shown around the impressive building by Michael Loney

(uncle of my friend Georgia Loney!)

who gave us excellent insight into not only the workings of parliament today

but some interesting tidbits into the history of the "Washminster"

(which is an interesting combination of the "Wash"-ington system

and the West-"minster" systrem,

but closer to how parliament operates in Canada in real life!)

We stayed for a bit of question time, which was also fascinating, fun and

... well, question time!

Rotary Club of Attadale

Monday night was a special night at the Rotary Club of Attadale.
Those present were very fortunate to listen to the Guest Speaker Torie Robinson.
Torie is from the UK, a leading international public speaker,
writer, influencer, entrepreneur, world traveller and lecturer.
Torie has spoken in the UK Parliament and featured in multiple publications.
She has had to overcome personal, professional and public adversities
throughout her journey living with epilepsy

The Club was also privileged to have Emma Buitendag,

CEO of Epilepsy WA attend the meeting,

plus three visitors who have personal involvement with epilepsy.
The Club will hopefully find ways to assist Epilepsy WA

in some small ways in the future.
