On #IWD2019 it is encouraging to see that over 60% of participants in our
National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) Year 12 Program were women, considering
the percentage of women currently in the STEM workforce in Australia is only 16%.
Amelie from Mt Eliza in Victoria attended the NYSF Year 12 Program
after hearing about it from her cousin.
She applied because she knew she had a passion for STEM,
but I didn't know what to do with it.
The NYSF was a way for Amelie to explore the various fields in STEM,
whilst looking at potential career opportunities.
“After attending the program, I have felt motivated to study effectively throughout Year 12
and to also keep in contact with my new friends.
Though many of them live across Australia,
I have received so much support.
In regards to my future plans, the NYSF has educated me on many aspects
of going to university, and it has made the whole process a lot easier.”
Applications for the 2020 NYSF Year 12 Program are now open and close on 31 May 2019

around just one park bench but glad we could do something about it.

Thank you Peter Marfleet for organising such an outstanding excursion
for us on the Duyfken yesterday late afternoon.
It was very interesting to learn of its history and get some insight
into what life was like in 1606.
Our crew were great and very knowledgeable about the boat
, how it was made, and the job it did for the Dutch East India Company
. It took them 3 months to assemble ships like these
in their very busy ship yards.
They had a lifespan of about 5 years.
Apparently they lost about 25% of their ships and about 50% of their crews
. Life was very very different back then!
For us in 2019 the weather was calm, warm and overcast.
Ideal for a relaxed social outing with friends.
