“Afghanistan is one of two countries in the world where polio remains endemic. With only one case of wild poliovirus reported so far this year, compared to 56 in 2020, there has never been a better time to eradicate polio. However, the polio programme will struggle to respond if the basic immunization infrastructure begins to collapse around it.” – Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, and Dr Ahmed Al-Mandhari, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean on their visit to Kabul.
At the end of June, GPEI announced a series of commitments to advance gender equality at the Generation Equality Forum in Paris. The Forum kickstarted a 5-year journey to accelerate ambitious action and implementation towards global gender equality. During this week’s United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), WHO held a side event to discuss the work of global health-related initiatives to tackle gender inequality and promote the need for gender transformative strategies in COVID-19 recovery and beyond. Jennifer E. Jones, first woman named Rotary President-Elect joined the panel discussion as GPEI’s core partners, highlighting the importance of addressing gender barriers not only in polio eradication, but also in global health. She reminded UNGA delegations that only through joint action among global health partners and communities, we will achieve our mutual public health goals, including polio eradication.

Bricktober, where funds raised go towards the support of programs
for young children and other Rotary and community projects.

in support of Shelter box which is an organisation
that helps families who have lost their homes to disaster and conflict
The Rotary Club of Bridgetown is proud to have donated $55,000
to the Blackwood Youth Action Group.
This money had been raised from our
Tour of the Blackwood event earlier this year
which attracted and amazing 400 participants!
The money will provide ongoing support for a psychologist
and a social worker in the Blackwood area
. This is the fourth year Rotary have assisted BYA in addressing
youth mental health issues in our community.
We have strong support from riders and major sponsors
Talison, and Wesfarmers.
WA regions need more local mental health support for young people living
in areas away from major regional cities and towns.
Planning is underway for next year with March 12, 2022, as the ride date.
We have three concurrent rides varying in length from 30 to 130 kilometres.
Let’s make next year even bigger!

We were invited by the Canning Vale Junior Football Club
to hold a sausage Sizzle at the Canning Vale Primary school.
The occasion was the AFL Grand Final Cup would be on display,
and you could have your photo taken with the cup.
Whilst there we had a visit from the police canine squad,
the officer brought two dogs along.
This was most fitting as our Club was part of the launch
of the canine squad back in 1993.

studies at Curtin University,
