June is Rotary Fellowship Month
FORM A ROTARY FELLOWSHIP
Rotary Fellowships are independent groups of Rotarians,
their spouses, and Rotaractors who share a common passion.
Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends from around the world.
WHAT FELLOWSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE?
Fellowship activities vary widely.
Members come together around hobbies or interests such as cricket or jazz,
or vocations such as writing or medicine.
Some groups are purely social while others
use their fellowship for service projects.
HOW DO I JOIN A FELLOWSHIP?
You can also contact a fellowship directly by using
and Rotaract members with similar interests.
HOW DO I START A FELLOWSHIP?
Chances are if you have a strong interest in something,
there are others in the Rotary family who share it.
Forming a fellowship starts with finding members for your group.
Here’s how you can start:

INNER WHEEL BREAKS $2 MILLION MILESTONE FOR CORD BLOOD RESEARCH
Cord Blood saves lives
Across Australia, Inner Wheel Members are celebrating the success
of their National cord blood research project,
fundraising for which has now exceeded $2 million.
Blood from the umbilical cord was traditionally discarded after birth.
It can now be used to save lives and is being successfully used
to replace bone marrow transplants in the treatment of leukaemia.
Funds from the cord blood research project have enabled
nner Wheel Australia to award 35 research grants to scientists
from Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane.
These grants have not only facilitated advancements
n the use of cord blood to treat leukaemia

and many other blood diseases,
but has allowed investigations to continue in the use of cord blood
for the treatment of cystic fibrosis, cerebral palsy and heart disease.
Inner Wheel is grateful for the widespread community support
that has been invaluable in exceeding the $2 million milestone
for this National project.
Inner Wheel Australia is part of International Inner Wheel,
one of the largest women’s service organisations in the world.
Set up in 1924, it has more than one hundred thousand members
n 103 countries across the globe: like-minded women of action,
enjoying working together to make a difference and improve lives.
Locally, Inner Wheel Clubs have supported the following charities:
Wheel Chairs for Kids, Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade,
Parkerville Youth Centre, Women’s Refuges,
Silver Chain and many more
WA has Clubs in:
Albany, Avon, Gosnells, Kalamunda, Kalgoorlie-Boulder,
Karrinyup, Mandurah, Melville, Rockingham-Kwinana,
Rossmoyne, Scarborough, Wanneroo, Whitfords,
and a new one just starting in the Swan Valley.

Rotary Club of Freshwater Bay
A special 'Membership Sponsor Reception' was held
by RI Pres. Ron Burton for those in attendance
at the RI Convention who were recognised
as 'Gold Level Sponsors' of new Rotarians.
Around 70 attended.
Some 300 globally qualified as Gold Level Sponsors,
the majority were from Asia
and PP Di was one of three Australians.

Entertainment at Changeover June 13th

Rotary Club of Karrinyup
This week's Rotary Club of Karrinyup meeting
was all about giving back to our community.
With proceeds raised through the very popular Stirling Farmers Market,
the club handed over cheques to three beneficiaries.
The club is again delighted to support Marmion Primary School
and their Jack the Wagtail initiative which sees students
raise much valuable funds for Dr Fiona Wood and her Burns Research Teams.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the school was Glenn, the school's Deputy Principal.
Our second beneficiary was the Batten Disease
and Support Research Association.
Batten disease is a fatal, inherited disorder of the nervous system
that typically begins in childhood.
With two daughters having had the disease,
Pauline shared her story and that of the work required to find a cure.
Our final recipient of the night was the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation.
Their representative, Anne, spoke about the work of the Foundation
in assisting the hospital with vital medical equipment,
specialist staff, research, complementary services
and services beyond PMH
