Please Support Our E-WA Rotary Wheatbelt Literacy Initiative`
I’m writing to ask you to sponsor me (or one of my wonderful team-mates) in our E-WA Rotary Swim for Bruce Rock Kids on 13 March 2016. The proceeds of the Swim will help fund literacy development for Bruce Rock kids by encouraging kids to read and to love books. We are launching the first stage of our Wheatbelt Childhood Literacy Program at the Swim on 13 March.
The literacy challenge facing Australia is big, complex and worrying. We want to make a difference in our communities.
With your support we can!
Any donation is welcome, no matter how modest. You can use the box next to the pre-set amounts to enter any amount you choose. All donations welcome.
And if you would like to join a team and participate, that would be fantastic! You can do that here.
Thank you in anticipation.
Yours in Rotary service
Kero O’Shea

2016 PASSAGES RACE DAY - SATURDAY 9TH APRIL 2016
The 2016 Ramelius Resources Passages Race Day
will be held Saturday 9th April and this year marks another significant milestone
as we move from our previous venue at Belmont to Ascot,
WA's premier race track.
Over the past ten years we have raised just over $650,000
and this year being our first year at Ascot we want it to be a real success.
Due to the change in venue we have had to bring the event forward
from late May to early April.
Unfortunately the date also clashes with the District Conference
which is regrettable but unavoidable due to Belmont closing,
timing of April school holidays
and conflicts with other events at Ascot.
Please refer to the Race Day Flyer
that outlines the various sponsorship packages that are being offered for 2016.
As always we will be offering a limited number
of individual seats for Rotarians that wish to attend,
tickets are $190 per head which is unchanged from last year.
As always, we are also in need of auction items to be donated.
We would like to hear from anyone that can help with donations of retail items,
clothes jewellery, sporting goods etc, restaurant vouchers,
accommodation/flight packages, in fact anything.
You may not be able to donate the item yourselves
but you may have a contact in industry that you may be able to call on to assist.
If you have questions regarding Sponsorship or Auction Donations
please contact Stephanie Rullo at the St Vincent de Paul Society
on 9475 5414 or stephanie.rullo@svdpwa.org.au.
or Ashley Ladner at the Rotary Club of Perth on 0429 365 040
or abladner@bigpond.com .
We look forward to seeing you on the day.

Rotary Club of West Perth
The West Perth Rotary Club has for some 4 years been involved
in supporting the development of a primary school in Les Village, Bali.
Today, Alan Briggs, who is the principle contact for the project,
met with Harry Clement-Shepard of Ethical and Green,
the main international liaison organisation,
to be introduced to Luh from the Upper Village of Les
. Luh was a student of the primary school before the club
was involved but has watched as the second 3-classroom building was completed,
a new teachers office built and the toilet block upgraded
from 2 squat toilets for 120 school children to having separate
boys and girls toilets with modern facilities.
Luh is attending university with support from an Ethical and Green scholarship
and is spending 3 months in Perth to improve her English speaking skills.
The project is nearing completion of this stage with cabinets, desks
and chairs being provided over the coming months.
